God’s Word Helps Us See Areas Where Sin Is Present

OPENING PRAYER:

Jesus, I pray my eyes would be opened to areas of my life that are not fully surrendered to you. Amen.

READ: Psalm 119:130, Hebrews 4:12-13

The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints, and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

REFLECT:

The Holy Spirit and God’s word both work together to help us see the areas in our lives where sin is present even if we do not fully understand it. The Scripture above talks about how God’s word is alive and active uncovering us before God. God’s word is how we can see where we are not aligned with God’s desire for our lives.

APPLY:

There is nothing in our lives that is hidden from Jesus. He knows everything about us and cares about all of it. One thing about Jesus is that He cares so much more about our hearts than what we are doing. If sin is present in our hearts, Jesus wants to deal with it creating a pure heart in each of us.

Jesus always wants purity not captivity. Ultimately, sin means living captive to whatever the sin is. That’s not God’s best for us and He’ll use His word and the Holy Spirit to nudge us and give us direction, so we live fully devoted to Him.

CLOSING PRAYER:

Dear Jesus, help me see the areas in my life where sin is present. Help me to abandon my sin and live in the freedom you have for me. Amen.
