It Is Finished

BIG IDEA:
Jesus offers atonement for our sins.
TEACHING POINTS:
  1. Jesus was on mission from the beginning.
  2. Jesus’ mission culminated in His work on the cross.
SCRIPTURE: John 19:28-30 NIV
OPENING QUESTIONS:
  1. Did you ask for forgiveness or offer it to anyone this past week?
  2. What is one thing that you are thankful for from last week?
  3. What is something that was stressful or difficult this week and how can we help?

IN THE WORD:
  1. Read how John records the death of Jesus in John 19:28-30 NIV.
  2. Have two people in the group retell the story in their own words.
  3. Give examples of different stories from Scripture that you know, where Jesus’ work on the cross finished or fulfilled.
  4. What does this teaching tell us about God?
  5. What does this teaching tell us about people?

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
  1. As people in your scope of influence (family, friends, colleagues) are thinking about Easter, who in your circle might you use this verse with and how would you use it to talk about what Easter really means? It could be when you’re gathered with your family at an Easter dinner, or talking about Lent, or asking someone to come with you to an Easter service.
  2. How can we pray for you and for each other as we share this simple story in some way in the next week?
MAKING IT PERSONAL:

On April 23, Pathway Church will be hosting an opportunity for people to come and package food that will be sent to refugee camps and an orphanage in Eastern Europe, where Ukrainians displaced by the war are staying. You can do this as a group and register to help at pathwaychurch.com/ukraine. Who could you invite that you are walking alongside to join you in packaging food?
