Message Title: The Angel & Mary

Short Summary:
This message explores how the Christmas story is filled with moments of fear and uncertainty, yet it is also a story of profound trust and obedience to God. Through the example of Mary, we learn that God speaks to us even when we are afraid, and He calls us to trust Him and obey His word. By embracing God's message and responding with faith, we can experience His peace and joy, even in the midst of life's challenges.

Icebreaker Question:
What is one thing that you were afraid of as a child that seems silly to you now? How did you overcome that fear?

Review of the Previous Week’s "I Will" Statement: I Will obey God where I have been reluctant.

  • How did you live out your commitment from last week?
  • What challenges did you face, and how did you see God at work in those situations?

Five Discussion Questions (Core Focus):

  1. Reflecting on the Message:
    • The message highlighted Mary's fear and her response to the angel's message. Read Luke 1:26-38. How do you think Mary felt when she received this message, and what can we learn from her response?
    • Life Application: Consider a time when you felt God was asking you to do something difficult. How did you respond, and what was the outcome?
  2. Trusting God in Uncertainty:
    • The message emphasized trusting God in uncertainty. Describe a time when you struggled with uncertainty. What emotions did you experience, and how did you see (or not see) God at work?
    • Life Application: How can you apply Mary's example of trust and obedience in your current life situation?
  3. Hearing God's Voice:
    • The message mentioned the importance of creating space to hear God's voice. What practices help you to hear from God, and how can you incorporate more of these into your life?
    • Life Application: This week, set aside a specific time to be still and listen for God's voice. What steps will you take to make this a priority?
  4. Overcoming Fear with Faith:
    • Fear can often paralyze us. How does faith in God's promises help you overcome fear? Share a scripture that has encouraged you in times of fear.
    • Life Application: Identify one fear you are currently facing. How can you apply God's promises to this situation?
  5. Obedience and Action:
    • Mary responded to God's message with obedience. What is one area in your life where God is calling you to take a step of obedience?
    • Life Application: What practical steps will you take this week to act on what God is calling you to do?

Prayer Prompts:

  1. Begin by asking for prayer requests from the group.
  2. Pray for the courage to trust God and obey His voice, even when it is difficult.
  3. Pray for those in the group who are facing fear or uncertainty, asking God to provide peace and clarity.
