The Marathon of Faith
        OPENING PRAYER:
Gracious God, as we journey through life, grant us the endurance to run the race set before us. May Your Spirit strengthen us to persevere and find joy in the journey.

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith..."
Hebrews 12:1-2 (ESV)
        REFLECT:
Pastor Todd Carter's story of training for a marathon with his sons is a vivid metaphor for our spiritual journey. Just as he faced physical challenges, we encounter spiritual and emotional hurdles. The cold, the injury, and the uphill battle he described mirror the obstacles we face in our walk with Christ. Yet, the key to his perseverance was the companionship and shared goal with his sons.
In our faith journey, we are not alone. The "cloud of witnesses" in Hebrews reminds us that others have run this race before us, and their stories inspire us to keep going. Todd emphasized the importance of community, leaning into the support of fellow believers. Just as he found encouragement from a fellow runner during the marathon, we too can find strength in our spiritual community.
Reflect on your own race. What weights or sins are hindering your progress? Todd's message encourages us to lay them aside and focus on Jesus, the ultimate example of perseverance. His endurance on the cross, motivated by the joy set before Him, is our model and source of strength.
As you run your race, remember that perseverance is not about perfection but persistence. Keep your eyes on Jesus, and let His example inspire you to press on, even when the path is steep.

            I WILL STATEMENT:
I will persevere in my generosity, trusting God can make all things possible.

        CLOSING PRAYER:
Father, thank You for the community of believers who run this race with us. Help us to encourage one another and to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, our source of strength and joy. Amen.
