Letting Go

BIG IDEA:
How to release the past.
TEACHING POINTS:
  1. Letting go is a journey.
  2. Letting go leaves justice to God.
  3. Letting go means gaining God’s perspective.
SCRIPTURE: Genesis 45:1-4 NLT; Genesis 50:19-21 NLT
OPENING QUESTIONS:
  1. Did you have any conflict that needed resolution last week? If so, how did it go?
  2. What is something you are thankful for today?
  3. What is something that was stressful or difficult this week and how can we help?
  4. Share your baptism story with the group. If you’ve not been baptized, talk about why and maybe what your struggles are with taking this step.

IN THE WORD:
  1. Have someone recount the basics of the story of Joseph (Genesis 37, 39-45).
  2. Read Genesis 45:1-4 out loud from two different translations. Have two people retell this dramatic reveal moment between Joseph and his brothers.
  3. What do you think Joseph’s emotions were at this moment?
  4. Read Genesis 50:19-21 NLT out loud and have one person retell this part of the story.
  5. What had changed for Joseph between chapters 45 and 50 in Genesis?
  6. What does this teaching tell us about God? What does this teaching tell us about people?

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
  1. What is a hurt, habit, or hang up in your life that you need to let go of?
  2. How could you use the story of Joseph in helping someone else let go of something from their past?
  3. How can we pray for you and for each other as we do this in the coming week?
  4. There is still time to register for baptism next weekend at your campus. You can register online at pathwaychurch.com/baptism.
